Montessori & Reading
Science of Reading

Montessori reading has always aligned with the science of reading.

Dyslexia Awareness

All instructional staff complete the dyslexia awareness training provided by OSSE. Additionally, many of our instructional team have completed Orton Gillingham training to support early intervention for students presenting with reading difficulties.

Reading Program

DC Wildflower has selected Wit and Wisdom as a supplemental reading program

Assessment

How is DC Wildflower performance measured?

Every public school in the District of Columbia participates in OSSE's School Report Card system.

DC Public Charter Schools are also evaluated by our authorizer, DC Public Charter School Board, using the ASPRE Framework.

You can see how DC Wildflower has performed on the DC School Report Card here. The ASPIRE Framework will not be public until school year 2025-26. You can also read our Annual Report here.

Arc of the Year

Every school year has a cycle of collecting information about how students are doing. It begins in the first six weeks of school with universal screening and observation, then moves in approximately 10-week cycles. As a family, you can expect to conference with your Teacher Leader(s) at least twice during the school year—in late fall and early spring—with additional touch-points as needed.  You are always welcome to reach out to learn more about how your student is doing.
